Our kitchen was in need of some open kitchen shelves to replace a cabinet that had, well we'll say lost it's doors. We haven't done a lot of kitchen renovations, but these open kitchen shelves were a great way to dip our toes into the idea. I do not know a lot about kitchen design, but my wife has a good idea for kitchen design I build the shelving brackets out of 1/4 mild steel, and the wood shelves were made from 8/4 ash. In all my DIY projects, I have not done a lot of metalworking, even basic metalworking. In fact, I do not think I have done ANY metalworking since highschool. We used a pretty inexpensive metal bender to make the shelf brackets. At first we tried using a vise and a torch to make the metal shelving brackets, but the shelving brackets were not coming out very consistent. After watching a few 'how to make' video, I decided it made sense to buy a metal bender. Thanks for watching this open kitchen shelving how to video. This is a tale of a store bought shed and a DIYer. It's no love story for sure. Take a store bought anything, cross paths with a DIYer and sparks are bound to fly. A quick internet search for composite shed shelving showed a system that the manufacturer was selling so you could add vertical storage to your new shed. I quickly realized I was not comfortable with this option. So I decided to design shelves that are free standing. (for the most part) The problem that I run into is the floor panels have a bit of bounce to them. They are simply molded plastic and there is a void between the bottom of the floor panel and the subfloor of the foundation giving it a bit of spring. This was my solution. Enjoy. I think just about all garages in the US have at least one wall with open studs. Maybe your basement has them as well. This is a quick and cheap way to make storage shelves. I'm using them to store wood but if you attach a few 1x's or 2x's across the top, you can turn them into shelves. But if you'd still rather buy some, I'd go with these: 🤍 If you like what I'm doing, help me buy more clamps, you can never have enough: 🤍 Written Article: Check out the Links Below.... At a time when wood has never been more expensive, plywood is a great material to make relatively easy and stylish floating shelves. I used baltic birch ply which has a lot of layers which adds to the attractive edge but you can use any plywood that you'd like. This project is DIY friendly and although I used a table saw and mitre saw, you could complete this whole project with just a circular saw. All of the furniture I've made for this bedroom is entirely made of plywood so stay tuned for more videos on how to make modern and affordable furniture.
